Summary | This post-introductory course is intended for students who have successfully completed Foundation Portuguese Language 1 (ELCH07012) or have reached an equivalent standard (Standard Grade/GCSE). It is not suitable for absolute beginners or students with knowledge of Portuguese at Highers/AS-level or above.
All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop their knowledge of the language in a wide variety of situations using more complex vocabulary and grammar.
- Continue to develop a more nuanced command of a critical understanding of a range of more specific areas in Portuguese-speaking cultures and societies (Brazil, Portugal and Lusophone Africa).
- Demonstrate an understanding of the main ideas of complex speech on concrete and abstract topics, and an ability to rapidly grasp the content and significance of a range of written material.
- Write at length about topical and cultural issues in a critical manner summarising information accurately and developing a clear argument.
- Further develop effective communication, presentation and interaction skills across a range of media, on both a spontaneous and prepared basis.
