Summary | This course is only available to ECA students on degree programmes belonging to the School of Art.
This course introduces you to key concepts and approaches applied by artists and researchers in their studies of visual culture. You will learn what knowledge and research are in their widest sense, and investigate what kinds of specialist research are said to take place in the arts. You will learn how to examine and test the wide range of critical strategies that constitute contemporary artistic practice. This will enable you to begin exploring and applying a variety of critical approaches used in the analysis and production of the visual arts. By taking part in a range of, presentations and written assignments you will test, apply and communicate your ideas in a clear, cogent manner.
Aims of course
1.To introduce and establish key practices and theories of visual research.
2.To develop an awareness of and the ability to select and use a range of appropriate research methods.
3.To foster critical enquiry that leads to the visual, material, verbal and written communication of ideas in an analytical manner.
