SummaryIndicative course content
To introduce various methods of gathering and manipulating visual information from a variety of sources. Through research and drawing develop and underpin individual methods and ideas for studio practice.

Aims of course
1 To interpret set briefs and generate individual approaches to research, drawing and visual thinking.
2 To appropriately select and use a broad range of materials, approaches, processes and environments related to personal research interests.
3 To demonstrate investigation and enquiry in the personal development and presentation of research, drawing and visual thinking.

Mode of delivery
Desk-Based Research Projects Site Visits
Course description Introduce core methodologies of artistic research.

Mixture of one-to-one group presentations and workshops.
Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students)
Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Research 1 (Art) (ARTX07004)
Co-requisites Students MUST also take: Art 2: Postmodernism and After (ARTX08025) AND Contemporary Art Practice (AREA08001) AND Studio 2 (Sculpture) (ARTX08016) AND Professional Practice 2 (Sculpture) (ARTX08018)
Prohibited Combinations Other requirements This course is only available to ECA students on degree programmes belonging to the School of Art.

Direct Entry students to Year 2 must have Recognised Prior Learning equivalent to 120 credits.
Additional Costs ECA students are required to pay for the cost of materials used throughout their programme of study.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. RESPONSE Demonstrate the ability to employ appropriate strategies for the development of individual research.
  2. PROCESS Apply a range of research methods through the use of appropriate processes and materials.
  3. CONTEXT Consider the composition and presentation of your work within the context of contemporary art practice.

Graduate Attributes and Skills Research, manage time, attend to visual material, assess and evaluate own and others work.
Study Abroad Erasmus and International Study Abroad in Year 3 may be applied for.
