Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- · To help students understand advanced procurement practices, the situations in which their use is appropriate and the contractual principles upon which they are based.
· To introduce students to the mechanisms used by a typical standard for of construction contract (from the JCT05 suite) to control the risk exposure arising form the liabilities of contracting parties created by the contract and common law, as well as the flow of money and information between contacting parties. - · Thorough understanding the features, advantages and disadvantages of standard procurement routes.
· Insight into the commercial aspects of construction project procurement and the influence of procurement route over the contracting party¿s risk exposure.
· Self-direction of extensive research of current industry issues related to procurement practice, including government policy and guidance as well as industry awareness of emerging issues.
· Synthesis of diverse, self-identified, sources of information and guidance related to procurement practice. Students will be able to integrate commentary from academic and industry sources. - · Competency in the selection of a suitable procurement route to suit client and project.
· Insight into the role of standard forms of construction contract in defining key project administration processes.
· Awareness of topical issues in industry procurement practice.
· Ability to develop procurement selection processes capable of resolving the influence of complex client requirements over procurement route suitability.
· Ability to express recommendations to a business audience clearly and concisely.
· Ability to support recommendations with well-developed and researched underpinning argument.
