| Course description |
Aims and Objectives
Demonstrate skills in rigorous investigation and synthesis in the production of an authoritative written discourse or design project.
Develop a personal position on what represents a high standard of architecture, conservation or urban design, and establish a position in relation to the wide-ranging debate on the subject.
Experiment on a theme within a particular area of interest and challenge preconceptions, pursue an enquiring and critical approach to both process and product
Structure and Content
This module is chiefly taught through tutorials, and some lectures. Students are encouraged to build upon and further develop the body of knowledge gained from their taught courses. A special Research Methods project at the beginning of the course will introduce students to the concepts and practical issues involved in conducting and completing research in architectural conservation.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate an ability in a wide range of research skills and methodologies, as appropriate to a significant project of research and investigation.
- Demonstrate an ability to apply critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis to complex issues which require informed/critical judgements.
- Demonstrate an ability to present a written piece of work which conforms to an agreed layout and format, and which is consistently clear and coherent.
