Summary | The course provides the framework of supervision for a substantial, independent research and writing project. The course requires students to execute and write-up an agreed research topic in the area of architecture (history, theory, design, technology and environment or professional practice). The course allows candidates to activate research design, planning and methods skills acquired in course-delivered research training elements of the programme. It gives candidates a opportunity to undertake original and (supervised) independent research. At least one qualified academic member of staff is dedicated to supervising the candidate in this process. Additional academic and other experts may be drawn upon as advisors to support the candidate. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Undertake and complete an independently-led research project in the form of a substantial dissertation
- Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and unerstanding of a given research topic, including an advanced level of analysis of the research material
- To apply theoretical, methodological, and technical knowledge acquired in other parts of the programme
- Demonstrate the ability to gather, process, and present a large body of information in a coherent and professional manner
- To contribute to our understanding of the given topic/subject of research
