Summary | This course introduces and elaborates upon aspects of architectural practice, including the architect/client relationship, professional bodies, current legislation and methods of procurement. The course offers an opportunity for workplace learning as it is undertaken during the Placement period, a continuous period of recognised employment (or related activity agreed with the Placement tutor) during which a student undertakes a programme of work experience in an architect¿s office or similar place of work. Students¿ understanding of specified aspects of architectural practice is tested through on-line submissions during the Placement period. |

In this course students will undertake three separate assignments during the Second Semester. However, in preparation of submitting Assignment 2: Design Report students will be given the option to submit a Summary (word count to be between 50-250 words) outlining the subject of their report and any pertinent issues.
Students are required to reflect upon their feedback and submit a short paragraph along with a list of intended action points (word count to be between 50-250 words). |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- An understanding of business management and knowledge of the legal and statutory frameworks within which architectural design is practiced and delivered.
- An understanding of the role of the client, archtitect and related professions in the costing, procurement and realisation of architectural design projects.
- An understanding of the role of the architect in society including knowledge of professionalism and emerging trends in the construction industry.
