| Course description | This course provides students with an introduction to computer aided design (CAD) software applications and their role in representing space and place. Through a combination of cultural and technical lectures, and practical workshops, students will be introduced to the historical and contemporary developments across the use of digital systems to visual environments. Students are expected to develop personal perspectives upon the series of lectures and manufacture two pieces of coursework that demonstate these ideas.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. carry out simple 2D and 3D drafting, editing and modelling operations.
2. employ simple computer aided presentation techniques.
3. demonstrate a broad understanding of computer aided drafting and its application to landscape architecture |
Assessment Information
Part 1 (70%):
Using architectural / landscape elements from the above site study you will use AutoCAD and Sketchup to demonstrate your skills in using CAD software (the PDF must demonstrate us of AutoCAD. Use of Sketchup is optional).
Part 2 (30%):
Working individually, students are expected to develop an illustrated interpretation of a chosen place that they have carried out extended research into. The study should unravel multiple understandings of that site through contextual research. The resulting document should present an unusual insight into how a space is produced through social, technological and interpersonal relations.
Submission:
ALL work (Part 1 and 2) will be submitted together via Learn System.
