Year 1, Academic year 2014/15, Starting month: September

  • Notes: In year 1, students who intend to take courses from within the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences (PPLS) for all four years of the programme, must take Philosophy of Science 1. Philosophy of Science 1 is not compulsory for students who intend to take courses from PPLS and the Schools of Informatics and Mathematics, but in year 1 such students who choose not to take Philosophy of Science 1 must take 20 credits of courses from the Schools of Informatics or Mathematics instead.

    Before selecting your outside courses, please ensure you have met your Personal Tutor.



  • Year 2, Academic year 2014/15, Starting month: August

  • Notes: Courses in 2nd Year must follow on from 1st year.

    In year 2, students who intend to take courses from within PPLS for all four years of the programme, must take Mind, Matter and Language, Knowledge and Reality, Linguistics 2A & 2B and Psychology 2. Students who intend to take courses from PPLS and the Schools of Informatics and Mathematics have the choice of taking Mathematics for Informatics 1A & 2A, only if these were not taken in Year 1.



  • Year 3, Academic year 2014/15, Starting month: August

  • Notes: Criteria for entry to Level 9/10 courses: Progression to Honours requires an *average* of 50% across all obligatory LEL2 courses, achieved at the first attempt, (2) a minimum of 40% in each obligatory LEL2 course, achieved at the first or second attempt; (1) an *average* of 50% across both the mandatory Philosophy courses standardly taken in the second year, Mind, Matter and Language (MML) and Knowledge and Reality (K&R) achieved at the first attempt and (2) a minimum of 40% in each course (MML and K&R) achieved at the first attempt; Psychology 2 or two Informatics 2 courses.

    In year 3, students must take Level 10 courses in three different subject areas with the aim of ensuring that, by the end of year 4, they have accrued a minimum of 40 credits of passes at Honours level in each of these three subjects.

    Exceptionally, in year 3, students who intend to take courses from PPLS and the Schools of Informatics and Mathematics may take Informatics and Mathematics courses at level 8 in order to gain the pre-requisites for further Honours level courses in Informatics.
