Course description | Students undertaking the course Practice Learning 1 will be expected to work towards and submit a Practice Study at the end of their practice placement in which they analyse a piece of social work practice undertaken during the placement. The Practice Study will be informed by the related knowledge and understanding, skills and abilities and ethical and personal commitment of the student.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The Practice Study is designed to allow students to demonstrate their critical thinking skills in terms of:
1 Application: the ability to apply key ideas/theories to real situations.
2 Analysis: the ability to compare/contrast theories and ideas, and the ability to appraise theories/ ideas in relation to the specific practice situation.
3 Synthesis: the ability to bring together different elements and write about them in a clear, coherent way.
4 Evaluation: the ability to evaluate key theories/ideas and decide the effectiveness of various approaches in practice.

Assessment Information
Practice Study 1 will be 5,000 words in length made up of the following components:
1 Description of practice situation and agency context (500 words)
2 Theoretical understandings relevant to the practice situation (2,000 words)
3 Social work models and methods applied to the practice situation (2,000 words)
4 Evaluation of practice (500 words) |
