| Course description | This will involve lectures and intensive, small group seminar discussions to be provided by the 'entrepreneurs in residence' within MVM, external guest lecturers, and academic staff with relevant experience. The University Press Office will be invited to contribute as will representatives of public bodies and commercial organisations. This would cover the process of turning an outcome of basic research into a consultation or a product for public and for commercial organisations. This will include discussion about intellectual property, licensing, meeting requirements of regulatory bodies, developing spin-off companies. This will also consider routes to present evidence to policy makers, and means to disseminate science to the popular media and the general public.
Assessment will be in the form of a series of short descriptions of different areas of the science of human cognition written for policy makers, commercial organisations, public bodies, and for the quality scientific and popular press. An additional assessment will be based on an oral presentation designed for an audience of policy makers, business leaders, practitioners (e.g. lawyers, clinicians, engineers, software designers) or the lay public. |
