| Course description | The overall aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the main problems in epistemology and metaphysics. These topics include: defining knowledge, the sources of knowledge, scepticism, the problem of induction, God's existence, truth, space and time, universals and particulars, causation, realism and antirealism. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
In lectures and small group tutorials, students will:
(i) acquire a solid understanding of the basic problems of epistemology and metaphysics (including: defining knowledge, the sources of knowledge, scepticism, the problem of induction, God's existence, truth, space and time, universals and particulars, causation, realism and anti-realism), and
(ii) acquire an understanding of the nature of philosophy and an appreciation of the value of characteristically philosophical ways of thinking. |
