Course description | Genome sequencing has already revolutionised biology and medicine, but we are still at the early stages of understanding how this sequence is interpreted to produce a functioning biological organism. Just as genomic sequencing would not have been possible without the development of high-throughput sequencers so the quest to understand the functioning of the genome requires the development of a whole new set of technologies. This course is about these emerging technologies and the new challenges and opportunities they present to bioinformatics.
This course will provide an introduction to functional genomics, microarray technologies and will emphasise applications of these technologies, data analysis and experimental design.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the emerging technologies and how they can be applied to address biological questions. Students will be able to design experiments, interpret and analyse data generated from the key technologies. Students will be able to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each technology and apply this knowledge when interpreting and analysing data |
