Course description | The course covers quantitative genetic studies of variation, molecular methods in evolutionary biology, finite populations, predication of response to selection, inbreeding and genetic contribution theory and genetic conservation. Teaching is through a combination of lectures, tutorials and some computer-based practicals and students are also expected to attend relevant graduate level seminars and journal clubs. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will have:
(i) A thorough understanding of the general concepts in population and quantitative genetics.
(ii) The foundation for advanced studies in semester 2 in evolutionary, human and animal breeding genetics.
(iii) Attended regular seminars and journal clubs in genetics, arranged for Institute of Evolutionary Biology staff and other postgraduates. |
