Course description | This module focuses on what happens to performance when people are under stress and what can be done to maintain performance. By considering the transactional nature of stress and the significant interaction of emotion and individual differences students are expected to develop a perspective that is appropriate for application in different environments and with different individuals. Current theory and empirical research are considered throughout the unit to help students understand how and why effective coping can be achieved through psychological intervention. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to:
1. Analyse the effects, mechanisms and performance consequences of the stress process.
2. Explain and evaluate the role of self-regulation and its influence on coping with stress to maintain performance
3. Examine the interaction between relevant individual differences and coping strategies
4. Devise and present an integrated, individualised intervention programmes designed to develop coping ability |

Assessment Tasks and Contexts
Students will be required to complete:
Task 1 (Weighting 20%)
1200 word critical appraisals of relevant research paper.
Task 2 (Weighting 80%)
3000 word (max) assignment on coping.
