Course description | This first placement, made up of an enquiry week and a block placement, is designed to allow students to gain an overview of life in a school and its wider community. Emphasis in the enquiry week is on developing studentsż observation skills, extending understandings about how children learn and how teachers collaborate with a range of other professionals through carrying out set tasks and engaging in żlearning conversationsż. In the Block Placement students have the opportunity to develop understandings about teaching and learning in the nursery school/class setting. They will have the opportunity to develop their observation/diagnostic and teaching skills, their understanding of the value of teamwork, their own skills in making contributions as a team member, and their awareness of how the school relates to the wider community. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The purposes of Placement 1 are to develop understanding and professional competence in relation to:
- curriculum, principles and practices in early education;
- the role of observation and reflection in planning for effective teaching successful learning;
- socio-cultural and psychological perspectives on early childhood development;
- the roles of teachers and other associated professionals within and beyond the school;
- self-evaluation to improve teaching and learning.

- The Teaching File
- The Professional Development Portfolio, containing written tasks and Progress Review
- Successful completion of the placement
