| Course description | This course builds on subjects taught in AHWFS (2) and comprises lectures and tutorials on the design, conduct and analysis of disease surveys, observational epidemiological studies and clinical trials. In addition the principles of disease surveillance, herd health schemes, animal health economics and where appropriate the various methods of disease control will be taught. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| Students will be able to critically evaluate the design and analysis of disease surveys, observation epidemiological studies, including the 3 basic design types and of clinical trials. Students will understand the theory of disease surveillance systems including approaches to the control and eradication of infectious diseases in the UK and elsewhere and their role in combating disease at a regional, national and international level. Students will have a basic understanding of the principles of animal health schemes and basic animal health economics. |
Assessment Information
Degree examination
A comprehensive written degree examination will be given in the second semester. The examination will consist of multiple choice questions (MCQs) and written questions.
