Course description | The course provides an introduction to political Islam as a social and political phenomenon in the contemporary Middle East. It examines conflicting definitions of political Islam; debates on its compatible with democracy; its intellectual, social and historical roots; its relationship to violence and its implications for international relations and world order. These questions area explored via lectures and seminars discussing a number of case studies as well as broader thematic issues. |
