Course description | This course introduces students to diverse skills required for undertaking independent research and writing. Particular emphasis is given to providing materials and information that will prepare students for the Geography Dissertation. A variety of skills are introduced including: Research question formulation; Choice of appropriate methodologies; Critical reviewing of literature; Planning, analysis and write-up of work; Use of Computer-based and IT skills to enable efficient working. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To develop and reinforce a broad and integrated knowledge of the diverse skills required for undertaking independent research.
To gain a critical understanding of the materials and information required to conduct the Geography Dissertation
To introduce students to a variety of principal and some specialised skills in geographical research e.g. research question formulation, choice of appropriate methodologies, critical reviewing of literature, planning, analysis and write up of work
To gain practical experience in the use of a range of appropriate computer programs and IT that can foster and enhance good research work |
