Course descriptionStudents attend weekly 2-hour tutor-led workshops presenting work of their own and engaging in the detailed analysis and criticism of work by the other students. They also attend a weekly 2-hour seminar exploring questions of structure, form and genre in creative writing. There are two pathways through the core course, one focusing on prose and one on poetry.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By engaging and experimenting with a range of particular poetic or fictional practices and ideas, students will be encouraged to develop their own creative awareness and skills. By analysis of the work of others, as well as their own, they will not only enhance their critical capacities and their faculty of self-assessment, but learn how to support other writers in their development.
Assessment Information
A portfolio of work submitted at the end of the semester deriving from topics addressed in the seminar series: either prose fiction c. 10,000 words; or play/film script c. 20 pages; or poetry c. 20 pages. Presentation of own work at least twice in the semester.
