Course description | This multi-disciplinary course examines a number of fundamental areas of enquiry in social and political theory as seen from the perspective of political philosophy and three of the School's social science disciplines. It does so by focusing on the competing claims of historically-influential theorists whose ideas continue to inform current social and political debates. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should:
- have become familiar with some of the key claims and concepts in the work of historically influential social and political theorists;
- acquired the exegetical skills and contextual knowledge necessary to understand intellectually demanding theoretical facts;
- developed their ability to engage critically with theoretical concepts and arguments, and to understand their relevance to contemporary social and political debates. |
Assessment Information
One two-hour examination and two coursework assignments of 1200 words or equivalent. The examination mark contributes 50% and the coursework 50% in arriving at the final mark. Students are required to pass the exam to pass the course. |
