| Course description | This course aims to develop students' understanding of the interplay between research evidence and theoretical approaches in contemporary scientific psychology, as well as making links to relevant historical background in the following core areas: developmental psychology and learning; differential and social psychology; neuropsychology; research design, methodology and statistics in psychology. |

| Pre-requisites | Visiting students should usually have at least 1 introductory level Psychology course at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this) for entry to this course. They should also have a methodology course at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this). We will only consider University/College level courses. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| By the end of the course, students should have an understanding of the different approaches used to investigate psychological issues and the means by which psychologists obtain and evaluate evidence and draw conclusions in various areas of psychology. They should know how to perform psychological experiments, how to carry out non-experimental research in psychology, how to interpret and draw quantitative conclusions from psychological data and how to present psychological results and summarise theoretical knowledge relevant to a particular topic in a clear, well-organised manner. |
Assessment Information
30% for practical reports and 70% degree exam.
To fulfill the course requirements requires: participation in the 5 fortnightly laboratory course practicals and submission of 1 practical report (3500 words), in addition to the semester examination.
