Course description | An introduction to the Greek language for complete beginners and those with limited recent experience of the language. A thorough grounding is provided in the essentials of Greek accidence (nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs) and in the syntax of the simple sentence. From week 4 post-graduates also have a weekly class to read selected texts, classical and/or medieval as appropriate. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should:-
- have mastered the accidence of the Greek language;
- have an understanding of the basics of Greek syntax (simple sentences);
- be able to translate straightforward Greek sentences with the help of a dictionary. |

Assessment is by an end of semester class test on passages read during the semester (translation and questions on points of language). |
