Course description | This course is designed to link the elementary material in the 'Introduction to Geophysics' course with the advanced treatment in 'Processing and Imaging' in Semester 2. A key advantage is that it will give students practical experience of processing seismic data on the computer. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
1. Modelling Seismic experiments: statistical vs deterministic approaches, convolution model, explanation of ray tracing and finite difference methods.
2. Basic signal processing concepts: Z transform, Weiner Filter, Inverse filter.
3. Wavelet estimation and processing. Deconvolution.
4. Introduction to log data and seismic well-ties.
5. Proficiency in basic data processing, experience with contemporary industry processing software.
