Course description | This is a for-credit course offered by the Office of Lifelong Learning (OLL); only students registered with OLL should be enrolled.
Ibsen and Chekhov transformed European theatre and created modern drama as we know it with some of the greatest plays ever written. Using a variety of film versions and adaptations, we will explore their finest work from Ibsen¿s Ghosts (1881) and The Wild Duck (1884) through to Chekhov¿s Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard (1903). |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
¿ discuss the basic concerns of each playwright;
¿ explain the special concerns of their ages;
¿ apply techniques of literary analysis to the works.

Assessment Information
Open Studies 10 credit courses have one assessment. Normally, the assessment is a 2000 word essay, worth 100% of the total mark, submitted by week 12. To pass, students must achieve a minimum of 40%. There are a small number of exceptions to this model which are identified in the Studying for Credit Guide. |
