| Course description | This is a for-credit course offered by the Office of Lifelong Learning (OLL); only students registered with OLL should be enrolled.
What is poetry and why give it prizes? Poets who have been involved in the Forward Prize, both as prize winners and finalists, over the last decade. Some familiar names but some surprises as well. A thematic approach encourages students to expand their awareness both of poetry and contemporary poets. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
¿ evaluate modern poetry in terms of structure and content.
¿ place poets in context both socially and historically.
¿ have confidence with poetry.

Assessment Information
| Open Studies 10 credit courses have one assessment. Normally, the assessment is a 2000 word essay, worth 100% of the total mark, submitted by week 12. To pass, students must achieve a minimum of 40%. There are a small number of exceptions to this model which are identified in the Studying for Credit Guide. |
