Exploring artists¿ attempts to break away from the High Modernism of the1950s, this challenging course provides an overview of the diverse set of practices (including land art, pop art and conceptual art) that would displace many long held assumptions about the nature of art and become characteristic of postmodernism. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students will:
Gain understanding of the complex ideas relating to postmodernism through the study of key texts and works of art
Situate the movement within the developments of art in the twentieth century
Become familiar with the theories and ideas behind conceptual art
Understand the wider cultural reach of postmodernism, beyond the art world

Assessment Information
Open Studies 10 credit courses have one assessment. Normally, the assessment is a 2000 word essay, worth 100% of the total mark, submitted by week 12. To pass, students must achieve a minimum of 40%. There are a small number of exceptions to this model which are identified in the Studying for Credit Guide. |
