Course description | THIS IS A FOR-CREDIT ONLY COURSE OFFERED BY THE OFFICE OF LIFELONG LEARNING (OLL); ONLY STUDENTS REGISTERED WITH OLL SHOULD BE ENROLLED.
This vibrant course will incorporate images, music, poetry and short film-clips in class-based sessions which celebrate works of art associated with or influenced by Scotland, highlighting the achievements of 19th-century Scottish artists as well as artists working in and inspired by Scotland such as Landseer and the Glasgow Boys. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
Understand and appreciate Victorian art connected to Scotland and Scottish themes in the light of the contemporary social, political and moral climate;
Students will be able to identify elements of various contrasting painting styles and approaches and the aims of different schools of Victorian painting;
Feel confident in discussion as well as having gained sufficient knowledge for possible further and future study.

Assessment Information
Open Studies 10 credit courses have one assessment. Normally, the assessment is a 2000 word essay, worth 100% of the total mark, submitted by week 12. To pass, students must achieve a minimum of 40%. There are a small number of exceptions to this model which are identified in the Studying for Credit Guide. |
