Course description | This course describes the application of stem cells in medicine. It will cover the reactivation of endogenous repair mechanisms, the use of stem cells as cell therapies as well as in cell replacement therapies, and in alternative applications such as in vitro devices. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the students will understand :
- The basic concepts of regenerative medicine and the contribution stem cells make to normal homeostasis.
- The definition and derivation of adult stem cells for therapy, and the regulatory and ethical issues that concern the derivation of such cells.
- The mechanisms of tissue homeostasis with respect to different tissues
- How stem cells can be used to treat damage and degenerative disease in different tissues
- The problems associated with the delivery of different types of stem cell products in regenerative medicine

Each student will produce 3 written critiques of specified key scientific papers in the relevant subject area and will present these critiques in a moderated discussion. Each critique will be a maximum length of 2000 words.
