Course description | A course for beginners with no previous knowledge of German, designed to introduce the German Language to students. The course is not suitable for students with previous knowledge of German. All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.
There is an identical course (Introductory German Language - ELCG07005) which runs in the second semester.
On successful completion of the course students will have the option of taking Intermediate German Language ELCG07004 (20 credits) in Semester 2, which follows on from Introductory German Language. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will develop basic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. They will acquire knowledge of basic grammatical structures and a vocabulary of approximately 500 high-frequency words and phrases. |
Assessment Information
Course work (two class tests, four vocabulary tests, oral proficiency): 50%; degree exam 50%.
The examination will consist of a two-hour written paper.
All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination. |
Special Arrangements
This course is open to all students. DELC students may only take this course if it over and above their full credit load, as in a non credit bearing course. |
