| Course description | This course is focused on training students in promoting resilience and coping skills by using behavioural and cognitive approaches to promote mental health and well being as well as clinical intervention in a problem cycle. For example; self-control and coping strategies, problem solving approaches to stress and anxiety management, social skills development.
Individual interventions are based on individual case formulations. This may involve the utilisation of one or more models or approaches of psychotherapies and psychological therapies. This will involve agreed strategies of intervention in the delivery of circumscribed psychological care that is appropriately delivered by specialist accredited therapists and that can be described in procedure and protocol.
Students will acquire knowledge of available packages of care for groups and individuals (such as techniques developed for: self-esteem, anger management, social skills, etc) and methods to promote positive parenting. Packages of care consist of proven psychological therapies techniques and elements that can be applied on an individualised and formulation driven model of psychotherapy and clinical management. Following this course individuals will be able to demonstrate general knowledge of age appropriate interventions, such as individual therapy, behavioural and cognitive programmes, group therapy programmes, parent and family support.
Students will further be taught in the theoretical basis for the formation and continuation of clinical groups, and the knowledge of group dynamics and the management of groups.
