Course description | The dissertation project is designed to further develop a student&©s understanding of the processes and planning involved in undertaking research. In consultation with the Programme Director and with their allocated supervisors, students can select their own research projects for the self-directed research part of the MSc, ranging from the study of communication in dogs, prenatal stress in animals, pain in rescued bears, to the impact of tourism on wildlife welfare. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. (a) Recognise the importance of planning and preparation required to undertake a research project
2. (b) Develop a thorough understanding of the chosen subject area.
3. (c) Demonstrate the ability to collate and critically assess/interpret data.
4. (d) Develop an ability to effectively communicate knowledge in a scientific manner.
5. (e) Provide recommendation based on their research finding |
Assessment Information
Written dissertation element (10-15,000 words). The University
of Edinburgh's postgraduate common marking scheme will be
used (assessment of dissertation component).
