| Course description | The course is designed as an option for graduate students taking the MTh in Theology in History. It may also be taken as an option by students on other taught MTh programmes offered in the School of Divinity, subject to the agreement of the programme organiser.Students with a very limited knowledge of philosophy are encouraged to sit in on the undergraduate course ST2A, which covers issues in philosophy from Plato to Hume. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will be expected to be able to demonstrate a critical understanding of the varied views on the relation between the "I" and "the Absolute", beginning with Kant's Critique of Pure Reason, and developing through Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit, Feuerbach's The Essence of Christianity, Otto's The Idea of the Holy, and Buber's I and Thou.
To engage with secondary literature on the relevant issues in modern philosophical theology and to demonstrate an ability to present differing and conflicting opinions accurately and sympathetically.
