Course description | A 30-hour supervised placement in a clinical setting open only to those taking the above Pastoral Care and Theology course. Admission is subject to interview by one of the supervising chaplains associated with the School. The course is assessed by essay, fieldwork report and a supervisor's report based upon the presentation of a case study. |

Pre-requisites | Visiting students should have at least 3 Divinity/Religious Studies courses at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this). We will only consider University/College level courses. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of the course students should:
1. have gained some competence and confidence in forming pastoral relationships together with a nascent sense of their own strengths and limitations.
2. have begun to relate basic theoretical concepts in pastoral care to the practice of ministry; to begin to learn how to use supervision.
3. be able to initiate a pastoral relationship, becoming sensitive as to when to proceed or withdraw.
4. be able to reflect upon some aspects of pastoral practice from a theological perspective.

Assessment Information
This course will be assessed not by a final examination but by a portfolio containing - a 4000 word essay relating theory to practice (50%), a 2500 Fieldwork Report (40%) and a verbatim (10%). A Pass in the course will also depend upon a satisfactory Supervisor's Report. |
Special Arrangements
Maximum 6 places. Precedent given to those student who envisage pastoral care to be a significant component of their career intentions. |
