Course description | With support, students will negotiate, plan and organise an appropriate professional placement in a sport and recreation organisation. They will be expected to undertake a research-based project for the employer and gather data for an organisational analysis that demonstrates their understanding of the application of theoretical management principles to practice in the context of the sport and recreation industry. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course students will be able to:
-Plan, organise and implement a suitable research project as a placement with an appropriate sport and recreation organisation
-Present the findings of a research project in a professional manner
-Evaluate the management, recreation functions and goals and objectives of the agency using data gathered while on placement, and critically analysed using appropriate theoretical models. |

4 items of assessment connected with this course:
1-Plan outlining the nature of the research problem, delineating its significance to the agency & justifying the research methods proposed for its investigation. 1000 words (10%). 2-Research report for the agency which outlines methodology, data collected, analysis undertaken & conclusion/recommendations : portfolio for the Dpt. 3000 words (40%). 3- 20 min. presentation to agency staff and Department tutor of the findings and conclusions/recommendations of the research report and answering questions/leading discussion equivalent to 1000 words (10%). 4-organisational report which offers a critical evaluation of the management, recreation functions & goals and objectives of the agency. 3000 words (40%). Item 1 to be submitted prior to the commencement of placement (Week 1, Sem 1). Item 2 and 3 to be submitted at the end of Placement (end of Week 13, Sem 1). Item 4 to be submitted at the end of Week 6, Sem 2. |
