Course description | The theme of this half course is the social issues that affect contemporary sport. The course will analyse perspectives and issues in the sociological analysis of sport. These will include the ethics, values, morality and culture of sport, violence and hooliganism, racism, sexism and sectarianism. The role of sport and the influence of globalisation and the media in these areas will also be analysed. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Understand the moral values associated with sport; understand the significance of social issues and the manner in which they affect sport; apply concepts raised by social scientists into an analysis of selected social issues in sport; critically reflect on their experiences as participants and spectators of sport from a range of social scientific perspectives. |
