Course description | This half-course will provide students with a critical understanding of the strengths and limitations of a range of quantitative and qualitative research approaches and their application to the particular issues addressed in sport and sport management research. It will provide them with basic skills training in a number of quantitative and qualitative research techniques relevant to placement and project work. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this optional half course students will be able to:
Describe various research perspectives and approaches to data collection and evaluate their relative strengths and weaknesses for management
Critically evaluate research papers in sport and recreation
Design research instruments
Formulate a researchable issue, plan and undertake a simple research project |

A small-scale investigative project (2,000 words) requiring either primary data collection or a critical evaluation of secondary sources. |
