| Course description | This course aims to offer insights into a range of historical and intellectual developments of Judaism since the beginning of the Emancipation of the Jews at the end of the 18th century. It introduces some of the most significant Jewish thinkers from the Enlightenment onwards. These figures are then discussed alongside the development of modern and contemporary Jewish movements. Further, the course focuses on issues currently debated in the Jewish communities of different countries. Examples of issues covered include Zionism and Israel, gender and religion, secular and religious identities. |
