Course description | The module covers issues in epidemiological study design, analysis and interpretation inlcuding effect modification, measurement error, regression dilution bias, limitations of routine data, power and sample size, scales and the role of multi-variable analyses in epidemiology, with reference to specific study design and areas of epidemiology (eg migrant studies, twin studies, life-course epidemiology). |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To provide an opportunity for students to extend their knowlege and understanding of design, analysis and interpretation of epidemiological studies and to improve their critical appraisal skills. Students will: have knowledge of how to identify the appropriate study design to answer a public health research question. Understanding the concepts of epidemiological study design and analysis. The skills to critically appraise epidemiological studies. |
Assessment Information
An assignment in the form of a critical appraisal of an epidemiological study and a study design exercise will be used. |
