| Course description | The theory of virtue is a central area in moral philosophy, which has played an important part in the thought of philosophers from many different traditions, and whose centrality is now being increasingly recognised in Anglo-American philosophy. By approaching the topic from a historical perspective, this course seeks to bridge the gap between historical philosophy (Ancient and Early Modern) and contemporary philosophy.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| The coursework involves close and critical analysis of various historical and current views on central issues in virtue theory. Students are asked to read, critically assess and discuss some of the most important texts in this field. Students are encouraged to develop their skills in individual research through the writing of essays, and to develop their critical, analytic and communication skills through informal discussion and oral presentations in tutorial groups. |
