Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students who complete this course should be in a position to tackle in a well-informed and critical way a range of interlocking philosophical issues centred on topics in realism / anti-realism and probability in contemporary metaphysics and philosophy of science. Topics to be covered will typically include:
- realism about universals
- Quine on ontological commitment
- anti-realism according to Michael Dummett and Hilary Putnam
- scientific realism and its alternatives
- probability and decision-making |
