| Course description | The principal aim of this course is to give students an understanding of contemporary developments in international law with regard to the protection of the environment and the sustainable utilisation of natural resources. Students with no prior knowledge of public international law will not find the course too difficult. Note: this course is only available to students registered on the MSc Environmental Sustainability or MSc Environment and Development programmes. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| Particular attention will be paid throughout the course to the processes of international law-making and institutional management. The contents and implementation of a range of important international environmental regimes will be analysed. Students will gain an understanding of the factors affecting the negotiation, definition and successful operation of international regimes designed to protect the environment and natural resources. |
Assessment Information
| MSc students are assessed by one essay of not more than 6000 words, on a topic chosen by the course organiser. This essay counts for 100% of the final marks and there are no examinations, assessment is by coursework only. |
