Course description | This course builds on Research Design in Geography by introducing project management in a commercial environment through a series of case studies expounded by experienced GIS consultants and industry practitioners. It teaches students how to design consultancy and research projects and the significance of considering a range of issues (practical, ethical and intellectual) relevant to successful project planning. The course also introduces the GIS dissertation and leads into the annual postgraduate conference, where students contribute talks on their chosen field of research. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students should:
1 - have knowledge of resources able to help in the creation of the research project plan
2 - have knowledge of basic projsct management techniques and to know how to apply them in the context of the dissertation
3 - an awareness of current debates among researchers and practicioners in the feild of GIS. |
