| Course description | This is a project in creating a music composition for a screen media environment. It will be a product of individual work and development. The result will culminate in a composition or musical project that can be produced and performed in a concert (e.g. film music event) or published form (e.g. YouTube video, etc.) as part of the assessment process. Work can commence in week 7 of semester 2, though approval to proceed will depend on the outcome of the Examination Board meeting at the end of semester 2. Work should continue to the August submission date. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Aims:
&ˇ To enable students to demonstrate how they have developed as composers for the screen
&ˇ To provide a platform of experimentation in compositional techniques which culminates into a definite completed and presentable screen music project
&ˇ To expand student awareness through problem solving, either as a project leader or in collaboration, when completing a presented work
Learning outcomes:
&ˇ A completed work that can be used in a student&Šs demo reel
&ˇ Vital experience and understanding of how a project is produced from concept to completion
&ˇ Further useful techniques in how to use technology to improve work-flow and production

Assessment Information
Assessment on this course will be devoted to the completed final project. The final project will take place as a presented final work performed in a concert or shown as part of a screening. Furthermore, it will be the responsibility of the student to organize and present their work in a performance setting. This can either be as through a collaborative event with others (MSc students or ECA students, for example) or individually.
The scope and direction of the final project will be agreed upon with the Programme Director in a written briefing prepared by the student that outlines the project&Šs content, structure and timeline. The briefing must show that the project is feasible to be satisfactorily completed by the submission deadline. This should be done before work on the project commences.
The assessment of the project will be done by independent double marking of the compositional screen project, including both performance and production materials/written composition, gauged at 70% and a written component of a 3000 word essay gauged at 30%.
The completed final project will be judged on the basis of its effectiveness in the use of music in relation to it&Šs connected screen elements (including, among others, clarity of presentation, dramatic efficiency and originality), success of performance or presentation, and quality of written/electronic performance materials.
The essay will be judged on the basis of depth of detailed knowledge expressed, ability to self-analyze, focus on an interesting topic of investigation and thorough examination of subject.
Students will submit the essay along with any relevant materials (score, photos, electronic documentation, analysis, etc.) together in a single clearly marked envelope. The essay and scores should be bound.
