Course description | This course aims to deepen a student's understanding of the kinds of decisions that have to be made, and the sorts of problems that have to be addressed, when performing music of various periods. The following areas give some idea of the scope and content of the course: rhythm; tempo; vocal music; ornaments; improvisation; touch/articulation; continuo; ensembles; recordings. In order to present a manageable curriculum within the confines of the time and material available, the topics listed above are largely restricted to the period c.1500-1800, but many of the areas of discussion have a wider application. |
