Course description | Students will research in depth some aspect of musical history or analysis of their own choosing and will write a c.10,000 to 12,000 word dissertation, under the supervision of a member of staff. |

1 hour per week for 2 weeks. Each semester begins with hour long classes. Then, as this course is an individual programme of research, the teaching allocation of 30 minutes for 6 weeks refers to individual tutorials which provide preparation, guidance and quality control. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- Students will have learned how to carry out systematic and extended research into a musical topic.
- They will have gained experience in planning and writing a piece of extended written work.
- They will have learned how to synthesise information and views from a variety of sources.
- They will have learned how to present a dissertation, properly referenced and with bibliography, appendices and all necessary scholarly apparatus. |
