| Course description | Students will prepare an edition of part or all of one or more musical manuscripts or prints, or a musical document. The musical source should present some challenge, whether because of the complexity of the notation, the state of the manuscript or a complicated relationship between more than one source. The edition will be presented in a scholarly fashion and accompanied by all necessary critical apparatus and by an introduction of at least 1,000 words describing the source(s), their inter-relationship, the composer and the significance of the music being edited. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- Students will have learned how to transcribe an extended body of music and to deal with challenges of notational complexity, relationship between sources, difficulties in the text etc.
- They will have learned to make informed scholarly decisions in cases where sources are in error or in conflict with each other.
- They will have learned how to present a scholarly edition, with full critical apparatus, making clear all editorial decisions and additions. |
