Course description | This course will be structured around the central theme of "Anaesthesia". The course will incorporate an historical perspective, basic scientific principles (biochemistry, neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology), therapeutic development, clinical applications, and consideration of the social and ethical issues surrounding the development and use of anaesthetic agents.
Intrinsic to the course will be the Medical Sciences electronic portfolio tool (ePDP). The Medical Sciences ePDP has been designed to support a self-directed, reflective learning approach, central to the development of effective study practice and the acquisition of the skills required by a Medical Scientist. Use of the ePDP will be embedded in the Medical Sciences 1 course allowing students to regularly review their learning and reflect on how new material impacts on earlier work and understanding.
