Course description | This course introduces students to the role of the United Nations in contemporary international relations and current issues of United Nations law. Seminars will cover some or all of the following topics:
- purposes, powers and structure of the United Nations
- legal capacity and immunities
- the Security Council
- maintenance of international peace and security
- UN peacekeeping
- UN administration of territory
- judicial review and accountability
- UN functional programmes and commissions
- reform of the UN |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The aim of this course is to give students a critical understanding of the role of the United Nations in contemporary international relations and current issues of United Nations law. By the end of the course, students should be equipped with the ability to present coherent and persuasive arguments in the areas studied. |
