| Course description | The scope and functioning of administrative law within its constitutional context; the relation between law, government and the state in modern Britain; the forms under which and the fields in which government power is exercised in Britain and the methods by which it is controlled. Reference will be made from time to time to comparative material, drawn particularly from the U.S.A. and France. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students will be able to describe the judicial control of administrative action, including aspects such as ultra vires, natural justice and fairness, incompatibility with Convention rights, misuse or abuse of discretionary powers, exclusion of review, locus standi, and judicial review procedures.

Assessed essay (100%), of up to 15 pages.

Line spacing: 1.5
Footnotes/endnotes font size: 10
Page numbering: All pages should be numbered in the following style: "Page x of y" where x represents the page number and y the total number of pages. Such numbering should appear either at the very top or very bottom of each page.
